Perfection
Able Baker Contemporary
January 18 - March 2, 2019
opening reception: 6-9, Friday January 18

In this exhibition, Able Baker poses a set of questions: what constitutes "perfection" in a work of art? Does it have to do with clarity, precision, exactitude? And does this mean visible or conceptual clarity? How can a vastly diverse set of parameters all point in the same direction? Finally, how can the artist use her instinct for clarity and/or mimesis to gesture toward the perfect across a spectrum of form?

In this show, we present work that operates on the optical desire for mimesis, precision, and depth in both (photo)realistic form and highly-articulated abstraction. Artworks include painting, drawing, and sculpture that span a range of responses within and between abstract and representational modes. Presenting these works in dialog with one another will both break and reinforce the illusion of visual perfection.
